another PURSE.

I know. I know. I should be writing my thesis. I am. I just wrote a sentence like 5 minutes ago, so there is totally progress going on in the background of my procrastination. I made a larger version of the purse for Rylan, but this one is for Kristin, who just finished all of the schooling she will ever have to do. EVER. pretty exciting.

So this is the purse. I really like this Art deco style fabric, but it wasn't too easy to match it with any of the fabrics that I had lying around, so I took a chance and went with some nice aqua for the top panel. I think it looks good, although a little daring and mismatchy.
here is a little close up, complete with my head poking through! These bags are fun little projects, so its alright that I have two more to go.

Another one

This one is for my old neighbor Rylan. she and her husband moved too far away, so I must send her a craft. This is from an Amy Butler pattern. I have two more of these to make, but they are going to be bigger. It was a fair amount of work, but I think it looks great, so it was worth it.
I used the same fabric I used for a previous little purse, but changed up the colors a bit. This time there is orange, which I thought was exciting. Its all about the little things.

The lining is blue with red pockets on both sides and a magnetic snap to boot.

birthday purse.

Ok. So, I made another one, this time for a birthday present. I like making purses, but this one was a total pain. Those pleats: super hard. I liked the last pattern better, but a bigger clutch is what Claire wanted, so a bigger clutch Claire got.

I just hope she likes polka dots!

um, crazy.

this is why people shouldn't mountain bike. It is dangerous. Scars aren't THAT sexy.

she is having a rough day at work.

Lily is bearing the brunt of my thesis writing procrastination, as the wearing of the cat tie might suggest.

Craft 8: purse

Last night I put together a new craft. I got the pattern from made by rae, a fun craft blog. She put this pattern up free for personal use, so I thought I would try it out. I used fabric from the anna marie horner collection, which I just bought a yard pack of, so I got a bunch of different colors. For a bargain, obviously I couldn't pass it up. I put some interfacing in between the lining and the outside of the bag which gave it some good weight.
This is the purse outer. I liked the look of the red with the brown. I think I am going to add a button flap to secure the purse a bit better. The pattern called for a magnetic snap, but I didn't have any, so I just went with it to see how it would look. The purse is definitely not perfect, I still have some things I need to work on. At this point I am more of a messy sewer.

I used blue for the lining, gives it some POP.

Here it is where you can see the strap. I don't know that I would put the strap on the next one, I think it would be a super cute clutch. There are a lot of possibilities for awesomeness with this bag, so if you are a crafter, go check out the blog and get the pattern!

tim burton at moma.

I was just watching the nightmare before christmas the other day and what should appear a few days later? articles about Tim Burton's art exhibit at the MOMA. Here is one of his illustrations. The whole exhibit sounds pretty interesting. Check it out: here is a link to an article in the guardian. Here is the blurb from the MOMA.
